iGroup – 2015

After a few manically busy weeks, it’s time to get back down to basics, so here’s a little flavour of what’s going on in the world of iGroup in Q1.

Despite the water industry concluding it’s 5-year ‘AMP5’ periodic review, work in this sector has been more buoyant than ever, which is ultimately a testament to the years of hard work that industry organisations such as the SBWWI and UKSTT and have put in, to get the water companies and Ofwat to respond to the many concerns that the industry has raised over a fluctuating periodical workload. Both end-users and main contractors alike have produced noticeably more opportunities than in the previous 2 AMP’s.

The CIPP lining sector has been particularly busy, with over 100 pipelines being rehabilitated by iLine during the period, many of which have been in the water sector, with a high proportion of larger diameter installs, from circular, square, arched and a whole host of other bizarre profiles! Whilst the UV methodology remains the strongest performer, iLine have also installed many ‘traditional’ hot-cured liners, thus consolidation our flexibility to consistently meet the needs of our customers. A special big shout-out & thanks goes to our key team-players Martin, Gareth, Alex, Stuart, Dai, Adrian and Andy, who have consistently gone the extra mile, and demonstrated an unconditional commitment to the business.

Directional drilling has also got off to a great start, with a wide variety of underground pipelines being installed, many for the ever expanding renewable energy sector, where iDrill are able to deliver full turnkey services for the end user. The main focus in 2015 so far has been on the medium to large diameter sectors, with a strong emphasis on steel & polyethylene installations.

The appetite for thrust boring (aka guided auger boring) also remains strong, with 11 installs being carried out during the first quarter; this technology still remains a highly competitive mechanism for new pipeline installs, where line and level are of a critical nature.

The outlook for Q2 and the rest of 2015 remain very strong in all sectors across the group, with an ever increasing order book, planned investment in new plant & equipment, and a strong growth plan. Bring it on!
